  • For all you motorcyclists entering our Facebook page for the first time, welcome. We would like to give you some background on Jim Moroney’s Inc. and our founder, Jim Moroney.

Jim’s intense love of motorcycles began at age 12. He rode a 1927 30/50 Indian over the pastures of his father’s dairy farm and old country roads which are now part of the runway for Stewart International Airport at Newburgh.

A few years later, Jim purchased his first road bike, a 1935 45 cu. in. Indian and from then on he was hooked. He worked at a Harley-Davidson dealership called ‘Brown and Koberlein’ just prior to being drafted into the US Army, just in time for a year’s vacation in the Korean War with the 3rd Division.

In 1956, fresh out of the Army, Jim and his wife, Carmella, purchased one of the oldest H-D® dealerships in the country at that time. It was also the Harley dealership he once worked for.

Jim and his wife, who served as office manager since the beginning of the business in 1956, set up shop on South Robinson Avenue. Three years later, he purchased his own building on Route 9W and Bridge Street, also in Newburgh.

Twelve years later, in 1972, Jim built a new 20,000 sq. ft. facility conveniently located on Union Avenue near Rt. 207. This spacious building has since grown to over 26,000 sq. ft.

Currently, Moroney’s is allocated close to 400 new Harley® motorcycles a year, not to mention Suzuki, which he has offered since 1964, along with Honda, Yamaha, KTM, and Ski-Doo snowmobiles.

In 1995, after acquiring Yamaha and Honda, it was decided to split the building in half so that the Harley-Davidson® product line and service area could be separated from the other lines and both have its own personality. This has worked well and is enjoyed by all who enter the store.

Moroney’s also has two service shop areas. Again, one to satisfy our Harley® owners & buyers with our certified technicians and another to attend to our multi-line of foreign brands and snowmobiles. Within our service departments, we have a complete machine shop where Steve McPhillips, our Master Machinist for the past 25 years, can build, fabricate, weld and repair anything that comes in the door. Plus our Harley-Davidson® Certified and trained technicians who have the background and knowledge in building and finding extra horsepower for the big twin Harley-Davidson® motorcycles, with many hi-performance specials that fit all of our customers needs!

In 1958, their only son, Patrick, was born. Following in his father’s big footsteps, he also started off at the early age of 4, riding a Briggs & Stratton on his father’s farm. As Pat grew, so did his ability to ride and race motorcycles. It wasn’t long before he was winning every weekend at all the local scrambles and motocross tracks in the Northeast.

Although Pat was never picked to race for a major Japanese company, he did race for Husqvarna and many support teams across the country. His best year-end finish was a 9th in the AMA 125cc National Motocross Series competing against riders like Bob Hanna, Jimmy Weinert and Marty Smith. His best race finishes were at the world famous “Unadilla” natural terrain motocross track in Upstate New York where he won the support class in 1979 and 1981 against some of the best riders in the world.

After racing motocross, Pat went to competing in AMA enduro racing where he became an AA rider after one year. Still not satisfied, his desire to race led him to road racing where he picked up a ride with Rob Iannucci, owner of ‘Team Obsolete’ and won the number one plate 750cc G.P. in 1990 and 1991.

In the early 90s, Jim and Carmella decided to retire after many years in this very busy business. Although Jim was here daily, Patrick had taken over the direction of Moroney’s.

With the constant growth of Harley-Davidson®, in 1992, it was Pat’s idea to offer Genuine™ Harley-Davidson® Parts and Accessories, and MotorClothes® Merchandise to people worldwide with the introduction of the 1-800-FASTHOG mail-order business. The success from this has seen the mail order department grow every year since.

We can now offer anyone great savings worldwide with just a click and have your purchase mailed directly to your front door or place of business without any hassles. All you need is the part number from any Genuine Harley-Davidson® catalog which you can get from any authorized Harley® dealership.

So enjoy our page. We hope that we have made it easy for you to shop and continue enjoying the sport of motorcycling.
